Meet Larry

For Readers

Every year I receive letters and email from students all across the U.S.–and often from other countries. I do my best to be helpful, but many of the questions that I’m asked can be found in my books. If you write to me, I may use it in a speech. (If I do, I will include only your first name, the name of your school, and/or your state/country.)

If you don’t hear from me right away, I am probably in the middle of a project of my own–researching it, writing it, or revising it.

For Event Organizers

I am a teacher–always have been, always will be. I like to say that I never stopped teaching, I simply changed venues.

I have always enjoyed visiting schools and have traveled to present programs to students on three continents–North America, South America, and Europe. I long ago lost count of how many schools I’ve visited, some more than once or twice. But I’ve been to schools in every state of the U.S., except for Maine and Oklahoma. (What’s up with them?!) If you would like to invite me to visit your school, please contact me here.

I do not offer virtual (Skype/Zoom/Google Hangout) visits, as they lack the energy and give-and-take of an in-person program. Nothing beats a visit by a real, live author or illustrator.

Unfortunately, my commitments are such that I’ve had to cut back on the number of book festivals and educational/writing conferences I speak at, as preparation for them and travel to them are very time consuming. That said, I enjoy mingling with educators and fellow writers when time permits. If you have interest in inviting me to your conference or to participate on a panel, please contact me here. I can’t always say yes, but I do try to oblige.

I have been blessed throughout my career with loyal readers and supporters. I thank you, and all the educators and librarians who have brought and I hope will continue to bring my books to our young people. WRITE ON!
